Should there be a rule regarding residents saving their spots for public outdoor events?

We think it is wonderful that our residents look forward to great events like the Parade and our concerts at the Gazebo! However, the Council has heard from many people who feel some people are taking this time-honored Carmel tradition a little to the extreme.
In addition to being unsightly and potentially deadly to grass, many people take up private space from our local businesses and interfere with mowing.

That is why the Council is working on drafting an ordinance that would set some new rules – such as limiting the amount of time before the parade and no chairs at outdoor concerts until 12 hours before the event. Violators would lose their chairs and blankets as part of the enforcement of the rules.

Those are currently only proposals and we are looking for more feedback. You can track the ordinance as it makes its way through the process at the Council and Council Committee meetings, or you can send an e-mail directly to your City Councilor or to City Council President Jeff Worrell at jworrell@carmel.in.gov.
